The Death Artist
It took me almost 10 years to finish and publish my first novel about a serial killer in the New York art world. When I was writing it I thought it was funny. When it came out almost every reviewer thought it was terrifying. People magazine named it “Page-Turner of the Week.” USA Today called it “a crime novel that is savage and erudite, layered in wit, satire and psychosis—in short, a chilling read.” The Sunday NY Times Magazine profiled me in its Questions For column. My protagonist, Kate McKinnon, is the opposite of me in every way—a tall, beautiful rich woman. When it was published there was lots of movie talk, none of which materialized. Now, a dozen years later, a script is being written and an amazing director is trying to get it made. Fingers crossed that sometime soon THE DEATH ARTIST will be coming to a theater near you.
